HandyMandyMan offers contractors the option to display a Background Check badge on their profile. Background checks are performed by an independent FCRA-compliant consumer reporting agency.
Your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
- You must give written consent before any background check is performed.
- You have the right to receive a copy of your report.
- You have the right to dispute the accuracy of any item in the report.
- If a background check result would prevent you from receiving the badge, you'll receive an "adverse action" notice with details and contact information for the reporting agency.
What we check
Standard county-level criminal records search (7-year lookback), national sex offender registry, and SSN trace. We do not collect credit reports.
Identity verification
Identity and selfie verification are performed by Stripe Identity. HandyMandyMan does not store your raw ID document or selfie image — Stripe handles secure storage and biometric matching as the data controller. You may request deletion of this data at any time by contacting support or using the account-delete button in your settings.
Data retention
Verification results are retained for the life of your active account. When you delete your account, we delete the badge status and request deletion from Stripe Identity within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements.
